In transition: Research involving animals and alternatives
Many of the achievements for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment that we now take for granted, would not have been possible without animal experimentation. Through advancing innovative methods, research is increasingly focusing to replace, reduce and refine animal experimentation.
Both basic research and applied medical research have made enormous progress for the benefit of humans and animals. Animal experiments were essential for this – and they will remain so in the foreseeable future, as they cannot yet be completely replaced. Nevertheless, alternative methods are becoming increasingly important and are being used more and more frequently in research.
At our booth, we want to show how modern research and the so-called 3R principles – Replace, Reduce and Refine – help to minimize the use of animal experiments and make existing procedures less invasive.With the help of illustrative examples, images and videos at various interactive stations designed for children, young people and adults, visitors can explore the topic in a fun and engaging way and learn about current research methods.
